3 At-Home Activities for Exploring the Hospitality Industry
Can you believe we’re halfway through September already? The year has certainly flown by, and Preschool of Business is excited to be celebrating learning about the Hospitality Industry this month.
For Hospitality month, students will learn some of the ins and outs of different careers in the industry such as hoteliers, travel and tour guides, event planning, restaurant management, and many more.
Below we’ve come up with 3 simple activities parents can do at home to help teach kids about some of these career choices, in a fun and engaging way:
Turn Your Home into a Bed and Breakfast
Parents, you’re gonna love this one - and probably even more if you try it on a weekend morning so you can sleep in a bit.
Have the kids run their very own Bed and Breakfast operation at home! They can get started by making sure parental guests have everything they need to enjoy a comfortable evening stay. That means towels and soap for a nice bath or shower after a long day, nice warm blankets and comfy bedding, snacks and best of all - a little quiet time to wind down together!
Next, have them plan for a big homemade breakfast in the morning and come up with a list of local activities or places to visit during the day.
Now you’re ready to enjoy a weekend staycation!
Manage a “Restaurant” at Home
You may have to help out in the kitchen under the direction of a small human for this one, but it’ll be worth it!
With this activity, let the kids play chef and restaurant manager! Have them create their own restaurant name, menu and vibe for their space, right down to the music and lighting. Take your pic of the head chef’s curated food selection and let them get to work on your spread!
Make sure you share any suggestions or complaints you may have so they can improve your experience at their restaurant, and if the food and service is good, leave a tip at the end.

Give a Tour
Whether it’s their bedroom, the entire house or even the dog’s, have your little one show you around and give you the history of what you’re exploring!
Travel agents and tour guides serve such a unique purpose in the hospitality industry, and help us make informed decisions on where to go, and what it means to go there. Have your kids step into the role of tour guide, lead you through some specials places around the house and tell you why they’re important to them.
Your little tour guide can even share recommendations like where mom stashes all the best snacks, where dad watches his football games and where the remote is mysteriously always running off to!
